free market and the dynamics of emulation (or originality)

Lately there's been a lot of people wearing ties/dress clothes and holding buckets at intersections collecting money for some organization that I haven't ever heard of (and honestly wonder if it exists). Most of them african american and some extremely rude - yelling at people through the car windows trying to get them to cough up cash.

Sitting at an intersection this guy with a bucket was lunging at the lady in front of me in her Lexus. She finally gives in with some cash... it was dark and the guy passes me. Behind him was this homeless guy holding a sign that said, "These buckets are killing me, please help."

I couldn't hold back laughter. I rarely give street corner sign holders money because I encounter just too damned many every day. I gave this guy change though because, well, it was as original as the "Why lie I need a beer" sign toting homeless guys I've seen.

I came really close to giving him more so he could buy himself a tie and a bucket and double his income.
